Manawatu Bowlers Defeated in Wairarapa
SIXTEEN RINKS ENJOY CENTRE VISIT
By a margin of 47 points, Wairarapa bowlers on Saturday defeated 16 rinks from the Manawatu Centre who visited them. Tho following is the list of games, tho Wairarapa skips being mentioned first:- • '

Hearsey (Takaro) 15; Morton 22 v. Rocho (Oroua) 13; total, Wairarapa 349 v. 'Manawatu 302. The Manawatu bowlers reached home at S p.m. after a most enjoyable day’s bowling. Thirty-two played a game in the morning at Carterton and 32 played on |ho Masterton green. In both places the visitors were welcomed by tho president of each club, and very enjoyable games were played.
In the afternoon a centre match of 18 rinks was played on the Masterton greens. The president of the. Wairarapa .Centre (Mr. H. Jenkins), in a very h a PPY speech, welcomed the visitors. He said ho realised that a visit was duo to Manawatu and that it would bo carried out this year. He presented the .Manawatu president (Mr. J, A. Nash) and secretary (Mr. A. F. Wimsett) with Wairarapa Centro badges and thon threo cheers were heartily given for the Manawatu bowlers. Mr., Nash, president of the Manawatu Centre, responded on behalf ol the visitors and assured the Wairarapa Centre ..that . the . Manawatu Centre would bo delighted to have a visit from them. Ho also thanked the clubs and the centre for the hospitality that had been showered upon the visitors during the day. Mr. Nash called upon the Manawatu bowlers to give cheers for tho Wairarapa Centre. Manawatu then gave ono of their bowling chanties, which included local “hits.”-
PALMERSTON NORTH WIN DIXON CUP A team from the Palmerston North Bowling Club wrested the Dixon cup and Tucker badges from tho holders, the Shannon team, at the latter’s green on Saturday afternoon, lyinning a good game by 22 to 19. The weathor was fine until tho afternoon tea adjournment, when a light drizzle began, continuing until tho conclusion of the game.
The visitors began well with a three on tho first head, but Shannon gradually went to tho front, a five at the sixth., head, giving then a substantial lead of 13 —5. Palmerston North played on steadily, while Shannon did not add to thoir score after tho tea adjournment, but it was not until the 19th head that they drew level with a brace to make the game 19 all. Palmerston North scored another 2 on tho next head, and a single on the' last gave them an advantage of 3 points. The result was:—Palmerston North, Childs, Mochan, Mowlem, Paton (skip) 22; Shannon, Hemmingside, Grey, C. Hook, Morgan (skip) 19.
AINSLIE SHIELD. Northern were at home to Manawatu in an Ainslie shield match, when Manawatu sent two rinks in quest of the trophy. Honours were divided on the games, but on the aggregate Northern retained the shield by 42 points to 32. Bates, Robertson, Williams, King (skip) 18; Lynch, Moxoin, Duncalf, Wort (skip) 26 v. Low, Inglis, Mason, Porter (skip) 14. MANSON AND BARR CUP. Foxton had lodged a challenge with Northern for the Manson and Barr cup, biit were unablo to fulfil their engagement. FLETCHER SHIELD.
The Palmerston North and Northern Clubs engaged in a match for the Fletcher shield, held by the former. Four rinks from each club played at the other's green and on the aggregate scores of tho eight rinks Palmerston North retained the trophy by 162 points to 142.
