Reflections of a Well-known Corset Buyer

"No other article of our wardrobe has come more startlingly into prominence of recent years than tho foundation garment," says Miss Anno Schutz, efficient corset buyer for Kaufiuaun’s, U.S.A., and recognised authority on fashion and fashion news. ‘‘Women have become suddenly and enthusiastically ligure conscious.

‘‘They are more and more beginning to realise the utter importance of good foundation figures. It is only logical to assume that a gown will look charming on a woman whose figure has been moulded to the right lines for its cut and design by the correct foundation. Yet many women, in fact most, still make the old mistake of spending more time and thought on tho choice of the gown than on the foundation to wear it with. ‘‘For instance, a woman sees a gown that appeals to her. She tries it bn and, without thought to whether it is suitable or not, endeavours to wear it. But somehow', she has to admit fiually, it is not right. In desperation she seeks out a corset department and says, ‘‘l have just bought a lovely dress, but it is a little tight m the hips. Can. you show me a tight girdle to make this dress more, comfortable ." So, she unwisely, buys her tight girdle and wears her dress and looks, just as one would ok-, pect, uncomfortable, stuffed, ill at ease. “The secret of wearing clothes is, primarily, comfort. It is the only possible way to acquire poise and the delightful art of being unaware of your charm. We try to impress women with this knowledge. We advise them always; ‘First buy a corset correct for your figure type and for the type of gown you are seeking. Then buy the gown and there is no excuse for not looking your very best.' "
