White Clover Seed
CHANGES IN CKRTIIICATION SCHEME
In connection with tho entry of areas of white clover for Government certification of tho seed harvested, considerable alterations have been made in the scheme to conic into effect with the 1936-3-7 season’s harvest. A summary of the changes made is as follows: 1. Fields inspection and paddock scaling are eliminated, the certification of tho seed being based on an official sample of tho liue 'drawn by the local instructor in agriculture after the seed has been machine-dressed. It is necessary that the seed be held in the store of the merchant pending tho result of tho typo test. Any lino of machinedressed seed is eligible for entry. 2. No field charges are payable, but sealing charges are payable at the rate of Id per 101bs., while a cliargo of 5/C covers the cost of all certificates for any one line. 3. Application for certification must be made through a recognised merchant. Should you have a lino of seed you desire entered for certification, you should arrange with the merchant holding the seed to make tho necessary application. Merchants may make entries either on behalf of clients or on their own behalf. 4. There will be two classes of seed —“Mother” and “ Permanent Pasture.” These classes aro quite comparable with the classes of the same name in existence previously. Should growers desire it, they may obtain a preliminary report on any line of seed held. To obtain this report they should submit a representative sample of clean seed direct to the Seed Analyst, Department of Agriculture, Box 442, Palmerston North, together with a remittance of Is fid to cover cost of testing. The samplo will bo placed under test, and the grower will be notified as to the advisability or otherwise of entering his seed for certification.
