Testing the Herds

MORE COWS HANDLED IN WAIKATO. HAMILTON, Dec. 1. The returns of tlio New Zealand Cooperative Herd-Testing Association for October show an increase ill the number of cows handled, compared with the number for the corresponding months of last year and 1934. In October this year 95,53 S cows were tested, and their average yield was S29lb. millc and 361 b. butter-fat. The average tost was 4.31. The association tested 5C,331 cows in October, 1935, the average production being 7SO'lb. milk and 331 b. fat. The test was 4.25. There were 92,819 cows tested in October, 1934, when tho average yield was S33ib. milk and 361 b. fat. The test was 4.31.

The two groups with the best returns in tlic association in October were Manawaru and To Kawa. At Manawarn 1711 cows gave an average of 8931 b. milk aad 401 b. fat, while at Te Ivawa 1586 cows yiolded an average of S9lb. milk and 401 b. fat per cow. The best herd was one in the Matangi group, in which 44 cows gave an average yield of 611 b. fat.
