Rams for Uruguay

SHIPMENT OF CORRIEDALES ARRANGED. * After a thorough inspection of all the the Oorriedale rams exhibited at this year’s Royal Show at the Christchurch four high class animals were finally selected for shipment to Uruguay, where they will join other New Zealand-bred animals of Dr. A. C. Gallinai Hebcr, a prominent South American pastoralist. When Dr. Heber visited this Dominion about 12 months ago he purchased a number of Oorriedale sheep, and subsequently in a letter to agents acting on his behalf in this country expressed distinct satisfaction with the sheep. The four animals now chosen for export are all from tho Riverleigh stud of Mr. James Reid, Canterbury. They will be shipped to Montevideo by the Pakcha, which is scheduled to leave the New Zealand coast on December 12.

In giving his instructions to the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., for tho purchase of rams, Dr. Heber specified that any animals bought on his behalf must be sheep of tho highest quality with exceptoinally good heads and correct medium wool, as the Society of Corriedale Breeders in Uruguay would not admit inferior sheep to their registered flocks. The stud rams selected comprise ono woolly four-tooth, one shorn four-tooth, and two woolly hoggets, all of which conform in every way to the exacting specifications. The two hoggets, RIO and 85, are both from the same family, and are particularly attractive animls, being prizewinners at tho Royal Show in the section for pens of five hoggets. The woolly four-tooth D 3, sired by a “HuiHui” ram, is an extremely short-legged sheep with width and depth in the body and covered with an even mediumstrength fleoce. The shorn four-tooth, which is closely related to the two hoggets in the consignment, is another first-class ram, showing true uorriedalo characteristics.

This is the fourth consignment made by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., to "Estancia Mongon Heber,” where Dr. Heber has established a large stud of New Zealand type Corriedales, which are in strong demand throughout Uruguay.
