Thefts by Women
TWO CASES AT WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 4. Twenty-five joint charges, involving men’s trousers, electric irons, a pair of shorts, playing cards, handbags, duchesse sets, curtains, shoes and boots and a large number of other articles of clothing, of a total value of £4O, were preferred against Barbara Gerrie and Ivy Eileen May Robinson, both married women, in the Court to-day. Mrs. Robinson was also charged separately with the theft of a pound of butter, and Mrs. Gerrie the theft of a push-chair, a pair of spectacles, a shoping bag and an attache case. It was stated that the women first came under the notice of the police on the occasion of the theft of a pound of butter from a grocery in Newtown. Mrs. Gerrie had six children, aged from 16 years to 16 months, and Mrs. Robinson two children, 15 and seven years. Mr. Ferner, S.M., imposed a fine of £5 each on one charge and placed them on two years’ probation on the others. He also ordered them to make restitution and not to associate with each other.
