Women’s Christian Temperance Union
ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held yesterday afternoon, the chair being taken by Mrs. T. R. Hodder, in the unavoidable absence of the president, Miss Moore. Apologies of absence were received from Mcsdames Dorset, Collins and Seadden. Mrs. Hodder conducted devotional exercises. Miss Sutherland gave the scientific fact. Airs. T. Young, who had been unable to be present for some months, was welcomed by Mrs. Hodder, and gave a brief speech in reply. The corresponding secretary (Mrs. Hodder) reported that she had written to Mrs. Ritchie, expressing appreciation of her wonderful record of service, an* expressing regret that failing eyesight compelled her to give up. A letter of thanks and appreciation was also sent to Mrs. Dorset for the good, work she had done as cradle roll superintendent and regret expressed that she could not carry on in that capacity. A letter of sympathy was also sent to Miss Moore, who was not at all well, and regret expressed that she would bo unablo to continue in her position as president. Reports of the various departments wero then presented. The recoi— ng secretary (Miss C. Jamieson) read the annual report; the treasurer (Mrs. J. Scott) presented the balance sheet; the cradle roll superintendent’s report, written by Mrs. Dorset, was read by Miss Jamieson. Mrs. Dorreen gave a report of her work at the hospital, and Mrs. Penketh reported on the Young People’s (or “Y”) department. Thanks and appreciation were expressed to those in charge of ments, and to all who had worked so faithfully during the year. Election of Officers. The election of officers for the ensuing year then took place: President, it was decidod that the vice-presidents chair the meeting until a suitable president bo found; vice-presidents, Alesdames T. R. Hodder, Collins, Holland, Clausen and Dorreen; recording secretary, Afiss C. Jamieson; corresponding secretary, Airs. Hodder; treasurer, Airs. J. Scott; "White Ribbon” agent, Miss Jamieson and Mrs. Dorreen, assistant; cradle roll superintendent (pro. tern-), Airs. Penketh; reporter to “White Ribbon,” Mrs. McC'onnon; scientific fact superintendent, Miss Sutherland; hospital visitor, Mrs. Dorreen. Airs. Hodder closed the meeting with prayer.
