Contest Fair

At a special meeting of the Combined Committees of the Palmerston North City Silver Band and the Manawatu Scottish Society's Highland Pipe Band, it was unanimously resolved that a contest fair should be held early in February next. Both bands are competing at their annual band contests and this fair was proposed with a view to augmenting funds for this purpose. Although the finer points have yet to be. arranged, it is suggested that the fair should take place on February 5 and 6 and should comprise stalls and games for the public on the lines of a Paddy’s Market. 'On the Sunday- afternoon it is proposed to hold a miniature band contest comprising all the selections and evolutions of the major contests which will be held a week later. This itself, should provide exceptionally good entertainment for the public as the bands will be trained right up to contest pitch. A further meeting of the committee is to be held next week when the whole matter will be further discussed.
