Granting Taxicab Licenses
APPEAL TO LOCAL BODIES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Minister of Transport, in a statement 10-day in connection with the enquiry into the taxi-cab and town carrier business, said it had come to the knowledge of the Transport Department that, in anticipation of the committee’s findings, a number of persons were being granted taxi-cab licenses on applying to various local bodies. “As the number of taxi-cabs already licensed to ply for hire is as a general rule more than sufficient to copo with the traffic at present offering, I hope,” said Mr Semple, "that local authorities will refrain from issuing further licenses except in those exceptional circumstances which may fully justify au additional license. I may add that I am communicating with all city and borough councils on this matter.”
