Mangatainoka Women's Institute

The President, Mrs. Boss, presided over a xery good attendance of members and misitors at the monthly meeting of tho Mangatainoka Women’s Institute, which was held on Thursday, October 1. Tho afternoon was opened with the “Ode to Friendship.” The motto for the month was “Look

straight into the light and you will always have tho shadows behind you.” Mrs. Boss then welcomed all visitors and members. As a, mark of sympathy to Mrs. Kerrison in her recent bereavement, a minuto’s silenco was observed. Mrs. Guinanno and Mrs. Purvcs were elected delegates to attend the halfyoarly council meeting in Pahiatua. It was decided that £1 Is bo donated to the health camp and 10s to the Christmas leper appeal fund, also that members bring articles suitable to send in addition to tho 10s. Invitations were received to Ngawapurua, Makomako and. Papatawa birthday dances. A vole of thanks was passed to all exhibitors ,and particularly tho willing helpers who assisted with the institute entry at the spring flower show held recently in Pahiatua in which they gained second place. A very interesting demonstration on hat making was given by a member who was accorded a voto of thanks. A musical parcel which was much enjoyed by all was won by Mrs. Whitaker. Tho hostesses, Mrs. Guiuanne, Miss Voweli and Mrs. A. Eusden, then served a delicious afternoon tea. Miss Prydo then entertained with a recitation which was well applauded. Late iu the afternoon Mrs. Harrison arrived and gave a brief talk on the making of wood pulp flowors, and showed the necessary materials required to enable members to obtain same for next month . when she will demonstrate this work. Competitions were won as follow:—Banana cake (7 entries): Mrs. Macrae 1, Mrs. Tait, snr., 2, Mrs. Cook 3. Article made from felt hats (5 entries): Miss Prydo .1, Mrs. Howell 2, Mrs. Macrae 3. The afternoon closed w r ith the National Anthem, Mrs. llusden being at the piano.
