Institute of Secretaries

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of tho Manawatu sub-chapter of tho New Zealand Institute of Secretaries (Inc.) was held on Monday evening, when there was present a representative gathering of members covering a wide area. The meeting was prosided ovor by the district chairman (Mr H. E. Kissling) who reviewed the progress of the branch since its inception a year ago. “The sub-chapter is now soundly established,” he said, “and there can be no doubt as to its playing an important and usoful part in the commercial life of Palmerston North and district.” After numerous matters of detail had been dealt with, the election of officers was proceeded with, tho following being appointed for the ensuing year:— Chairman, Mr H. E. Kissling; vicechairman, Mr A. P. Stuart; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr G. N. Hawken; members of committee, Messrs G. C. Francis, P. B. Desmond, J. B. Smillie, A. S. Trevithick, G. H. Dawiek, H. S. Quigley, A. Way, G. N. Boulton.

The attendance of several officers of the Wellington Chapter, including the chairman and secretary, and past secretary, was greatly appreciated by local members. Mr E. A. Wallace, past president of tho institute, was also present, and at the conclusion of the formal business lio addressed the meeting concerning tho activities of the organisation from both a national and a local aspect. Mr Wallace has played a most important part in creating and building up the institute to the largest of its kind in tho Dominion, and is always ready to make a sacrifice to assist new branches of the organisation over tho difficult period of establishment. Mr F. W. Vosselor (president of the Wellington Chapter) also addressed the meeting, while Messrs T. R. Perston and R. V. Jones (secretary and past secretary of tho same chapter respectively) wero able to offer appreciated advice and guidance. From tho degree of enthusiasm there is every indication that tho local subchapter is about to enjoy a year of further progress and usefulness, an active committeo ensuring that the attractive programme planned will merit the closest interest of all members.
