Awapuni Track Work DAWNING LIGHT PLEASES, APPRENTICE JOCKEY INJURED. Witt th.o going good and the flags well out on the course proper, there was some interesting work at Awapuni yesterday morning. The horses which were engaged at Otaki on Saturday wero among-those on the easy list. Three furlongs in 39 l-ssec. was recorded by the youngster, Pickmeup, and Hot Shot, from a standing start, required 42 3-ssec. Hot Shot is a brother of Ringshot, and he is recovering from a cold.

Dungarvan (L. M. Pine) and Dawning Light (W. J. Broughton) wore companions in a six-furlong flutter. Thoy reached tho three-furlong peg in 41 and completed in 1.23. It was a good effort, particularly on tho part of Dawning Light. Martara (J. Chaplin) and Vonia Park (G. Tattcrsall) scampered over five furlongs in 1.9, Vonia Park going smoothly and not undor pressure, Saltspray (A. McDonald) sprinted six furlongs on his own in 1.23, going nicely throughout. Cloudy Bay (Broughton) was not troubled to cut five furlongs out in 1.11. ' St. Clara (Broughton) was taken along easily to tho two-furlong peg and sprinted homo in 27see. She is improving.

Croonor (Tnttersall) and Laughing Chief (Broughton) wero together just in front of Bluffer at tho end of a three-furlong scamper and the time was 3S 3-5. These youngsters aro coming along nicely. Patter (Broughton) and Black Pox (R. Chisholm) have rejoined the activo brigade and they wero given a “pipeopener’ ’ over three furlongs. Alloa (Broughton) was not after time and ho covered six furlongs in 1.27 2-5.

The half-brother to Manawatu sprinted three furlongs in 40. He moved well.

Oriwai (C. Thomson) and Laggard (B. Browne) were companions over half a. mile and the former was a shade to the good after taking 55sec. Tangled (L. Parkes) and Gainsay (W. J. McDowell) covered four furlongs in 56 3-ssoe.

Miss Pango (Broughton) and Padnos (Browne) galloped a mile. The first five took 1.10 and tho full journey 1.52 2-5. Miss Pango had an advantage in weight, but she was galloping well throughout. W. J. McDowell will ride her in the Steeplechase at Ellerslie. Tipsy Miss (C. Robinson) and Wild Flower (Broughton) sprinted three in 41 3-ssec.

D. Mansfield, the lightweight attached to G. W. New’s stable, sustained a fractured left arm on Monday, when a two-year-old fell on him. It was after tho morning work had been completed and Mansfield was riding him back to the stablo when tho colt, by Peach Brandy from Hallowvonia, reared and fell back.

On the steeplechase grass, Dark Sky and Beechwood finished together over a record soven furlongs, the time being 1,271. They did the first half-mile in 4755ec., and tho first six furlongs in 1.14. Charles Fox ran a stylish six furlongs in 1.15. Northwind and Boongary did the best mile in 1.4 G. Riddle defeated Othello over a splendid four furlongs in 49sec., the first'two taking 24sec. Prince Quex concluded his work with four furlongs in 53J. Sculpin ran six in 1,16 and looks well. Aurios Star ran five in 1.2| and Toltec seven in 1.32. Oratory strode out and Cuddle cantered. Chief Ranger defeated Great Hope over six furlongs in 1.21. Tho former looks much improved.
