From Our Own Correspondent.

Tho annual meeting of the Longburn Tennis Club was held last week. There was a fair attendance of menuiers, Mr. IC. Jeweli being elected to the cliair. The following is tho annual report on the activities of the club for the season 10J336: "Tho season which opened under ideal weather conditions, proved to be a successful ono and although there was no increase in membership tho balance sheet still shows a credit balance of £1 10s od. A team was entered in tho Saturday L grade competition but owing to the loss of three of its strongest members, did not perform as well as in previous years. One new net was purchased at the beginning of the season and new seats were erected in front of tho tennis pavilion. Severe damage done to the pavilion and wirenetting has now been repaired. The club handicap and championship events resulted as follow: Men's championship, IC. Jewell; men's handicap, R. Rowland; ladies’ championship, Mrs. Godfrey. The ladies’ handicap was uncompleted, the finalists being Misses Chamberiain and Sherriffs. After many closely contested matches Mrs. Godfrey and D. Rowland were finalists for tho Nicoi Stars. The coming season promises to be a successful one. Several new players have signified their intention of enroiiing as members. Tho committee desires to thank all members for their support and services endered during tho past season.” Before commencing tho business of tho new sea-son-the chairman referred to the loss suffered bv the president, Mr. A. Nicoi, in the death of his son, members standing in silence as a mark of sympathy. It was decided to enter a team in the competitions as in previous years. Owing to a number of subscriptions being outstanding, it was decided to enforce the rule of entering only financial members in the handicap and championship events. A working bee was held at the week-end, when the-wiro netting was repaired and a general clean-up of tho courts made. It was decided that the opening day be on Saturday, October 10. The following were the officers elected for the ensuing year: Patron, Mr. R. Tanner; president, Mr A. Nicoi; vice-presidents, Messrs. T. Ormsby, T. Cooksley, A. Oliver, A. Sansom, R. Day. and J. Callesen; secretary- and treasurer, W. Aldersley; club captain, F. Hearsey; selection committee, Miss H. Hills, Messrs. K. Jewell and H. Bowler; general- committee. Misses H. Hills, U. Chamberiain, L. Campbell, J. Shirriffs. Messrs. H. Bowler, SI. Shlrrlffs, B. Jewell and Pv. Rowland. Persona!. Miss H. Rowland, of Karere, is visiting friends in Wellington. Mrs. C. C. Hills is visiting her daughter, Mrs, J. Paul, of Cambridge.
