Geysers at Rotorua Active
WINTER TOURISTS INCREASE
ROTORUA, Oct. 3. The Pohutu Geyser, in the Government reserve at Wliakarewarewa, has again, after a considerable period of quiescence, been affording an interesting spectacle to visitors. On September 1 the geyser played 14 times and since then it has given one sustained display lasting 4} hours. The record for an uninterrupted shot is 174 hours. The geyser has continued to play very vigorously, and over a period of 20 days 137 displays were recorded, compared with 45 shots over a period of 13 days during the same month of the previous year. The Waikorohihi geyser has played almost continuously during the winter months, but Waikite, which has not played for 10 months, still shows no signs of activity. The other vents in the area are particularly active. Overseas visitors to Rotorua have had a'n excellent opportunity recently of seeing the thermal attractions at their best. Compared with other years, there has been a large increase in the number of overseas visitors to Rotorua during the winter months this year
