Hide and Sheepskin Sale

The usual fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides and tallow was held in Wellington last week. There was keen bidding for all lines by a fully representative bench of buyers, report Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd. Especially keen was the competition for sheepskins, and prices showed an allround advance of from a farthing to three-farthings per pound as compared with tho last Wellington sale. Pelts and shortwools showed the least advance. Hides were firm for all grades; calfskins advanced by a halfpenny to a penny per lb. and yearlings by a farthing to three farthings, as compared with our last sale. Ox and cow hides maintained late rates. Tallow was firm. The range of prices is quoted below:—

Dry sheepskins: Halfbred, 9Jd to 12Jd; fine Xbred, 7Jd to medium Xbred, 4fd to 10|d; coarse Xbred, 5Jd to lOJd; half wools, 3Jd to 10fd; quarter wools, 5d to 8:}d; pelts, 3£d to 6Jd. Salted skins: Pelts, 9d to 2s; quarter wools, 3s 9d; half wools, 6s 4d; threequarter wools, 7s 2d; full wools, 7s fid to 8s; extra large, 8s 4d; lambs, 6s 4d. Hides.—Ox: 331bs. to 441b5., 6 3-Sd; 45-52, 6d to 7d; 53-59, 5 5-8 dto Sd; 60-69, 74d to 8 l-8d; 701bs. and over, 8 l-Bd. ~Cow: 331bs. to 391b5., 8 I-Sd; 40-48, 5d to 6Jd; 491bs. and over, 4*d to 6 5-Bd. Kip: 251bs. to 321b5., 5 3-8 dto 7d; 17-24, 5d to 9Jd. Yearling: lllbs. to 161b5., 8d to 10 5-Bd. Calf: 91bs. to lOlbs., 6 5-8 d to 11 5-8 d; 6-8, 6 5-8 d to 14 7-8 d; 1-5, 15d.
