Wellington Harmonic Society

CHARITY CONCERT IN FEILDING. Particulars of the concert to be given in Feilding next Sunday' afternoon in aid of the local Health stamp campaign havo now been received. Feilding is fortunate in that concerts having been arranged in Wanganui and Palmerston North, it was found possible to include this town in the itinerary. Tho society', which has been in existence over 21 years, has earned a very high reputation for its work, being considered by many to bo the best unaccompanied choir in tho Dominion. Percy Grainger, tho world-famed pianist and composer, after his reeont visit to the Dominion, compared the society’s work favourably with that of similar musicians in tho larger centres of the world.

During tho whole of its existence tho choir has been under tho eonductorship of Air 11. Temple White, who had already earned a reputation as a choir conductor in Feilding. This has been greatly enhanced by his association with tho Wellington Society. To celebrate the coming-of-nge of tho society, its members decided that the best way was to do something for tho benefit ot others, and approached local mayors to organise concerts in aid of worthy objects. The choir members are paying their own expenses and local expenses are being kept to a minimum in order that the funds of the children’s health camp (the object selected) may benefit to the fullest extent. In this connection the committee has been most fortunato in that tho Tivoli Theatre and facilities have been placed at its disposal free of cost by tho management for the purposes of tho concert. It is hoped that citizens will do their part by filling tho theatre. The programme to be submitted is an excellent one, and contains part-songs, folk songs, choruses, piano solos, violin solos, male quartettes, soprano solos, .bass solos, duet and chorus, etc. Assisting tho society will bo Mr Reg. Sutton, tho talented violinist, who will appear in solo numbers and also with tho choir. His appearance is by courtesy of the De Luxe Theatre, Wellington. The vocal soloists includo Aliss Alyra Sawyer (recently returned from Australia), Aliss Edith Prydo (contralto), and Aliss Afario Burgess (soprano).
