Dannmevirke Cattle Fair
MARKET FIRM.
At the spring cattle fair held in Banncvirko on Thursday, thero was a good yarding of station and other cattle, which met with very keen competition at values in keeping with outsido markets. All the cattle came forward in excellent condition. Sheep values were on a par with recent rates. There was a large attendance of buyers, many of whom came from outsido districts.
The Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Co-op. Assn., Ltd., report offering a good yarding of all olasses of sheep and cattle to a good attendance of local and outsido buyers. Sheep sold well at late rates. The cattle yarded came forward in good condition and wero keenly com peted for, enabling a total clearance to bo effected. Below is a list of prices realised:—Fat ewes, £1 5s to £1 7s Gd; b.f. hoggets, 22s to 27s Gd; Romney wether hoggets, £1 4s to £1 Gs; ewes and lambs (all 1 counted), 15s, 15s Gd to 15s 7d; fat wethers, 35s Gd; fat P.A. cows, £G 10s to £7 10s; fat P.A. heifers, £7 10s to £S; fat cows (dairy sorts), £4 10s to £6 ss; 3 and 4-yr. PA. bullocks, £S 15s to £0 3s; 2-yr. P.A. steers, £7 to £7 ISs; yearling P.A. steers, £4. 10s, £5 ss, £5 15s to £G ss; 3-yr. P.A. heifers, £7 10s to £S; empty P.A. cows, £s'los to £6; P.A. cows, in calf P.A. bull, £5 10s to £6 10s; dairy cows, £1 os to £0; springing heifers, £5 to £5 12s Gd; weauer Jersey heifers, £3 5s to £3 12s Gd; store cows, £2 to £3 2s Gd; wcaner pigs, 12s to 17s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report having offered a good yarding of sheep and a fair yarding of cattlo to a good attendance of local and outsido buyers. The demand was keen throughout, and a total clearance was effected with prices in kcopiug with outsido markets. The following were a tango of prices realised: —Fat ewes, 20s, 2Ss Id, 29s 9d to 30s 2d; ewes with 100 per cent, lambs at foot, 14s Gd (all counted); good wether hoggets, 27s -id; rising 4-yr. P.A. bullocks, £0; 2-vr. P.A.-Hcreford steers, £7 ss; P.A. weancr steers, £5 12s Gd to £6; fat cows and heifers, £G 15s to £7 2s Gd; fat coivs, ex-dairy, £3 15s to £4 14s.
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having made tho following sales:—Fat P.A. cow', £7 15s; fat P.A. heifers, £7; fat Jersey cows, £4 16s; yearling P.A. steers, £5 ISs and £5 11s; 2-year-olfl ditto, £7 lGs and £7 17s Gd; 3-year-okl ditto, £8 ISs and £9 12s Gd; P.A.-Here-ford-cross heifers, £3 Gs and £3 19s; Jersey bullocks, £2 2s Gd to £7; backward springing Jersey heifers, £3 to £3 7s Gd; backward dairy cows, £2 to £4 15s; A.A. 4-year-old bulls, llgns. to 15tgns. Messrs V/illiams and Kettle, Ltd., report having held their Dannevirke spring cattle fair on Thursday, when they offered a big yarding of cattle of all classes. Tho offering included a number of good quality lines of station cattle, which met with good competition, and rates ruling at other centres were fully maintained, Thero was a big attendance of buyers,, representing West Coast, Taranaki, Wairarapa, Northern Hawke’s Bay and local districts. Sheep also maintained late rates, and a good clcaranco was effected at tho following prices:—

Cowper, Kaitokc, 15 fat Hereford cows £8 I7s, 41 P.A. and Hereford bullocks £9 ss; on account of Messrs Cowper and Williams, Kaitokc, 60 P.A. yearling steers £6 13s; on account of Puko-Atua Station, Kaitoke, 9 fat P.A. cows and heifers £8 12s; on account of Mr R. Bond, Weber, 29 4-yr. PA. and Hereford bullocks, £9 8s Gd; on account of Mr T. Sitemau, Wimbledon, IS 2 and 3-yr. PA. bullocks £8 lGs; on account of Mr A. McLeod, Piri Piri, 20 2-yr. PA. heifers £7 9s. Other prices were: Light fat P.A. cows and heifers, £7 Is to £7 17s Gd; good fat Jersey cows, £4 10s to £5 los; light fat Jersey cows, £3 to £4 10s; 23 PA. steers, £8; G PA. steers, £8 ss; 7 yearling P.A. steers, £5 Ss; 21 S.H. and Hereford steers, £6 ss; 20 P.A. yearling heifers, £5 5s Gd; 9 P.A. yearling heifers, £4 Gs; 25 P.A. heifers, r.w. PA. bulls, Hereford heifers, £4; 6 yearling Hereford heifers, £4 8s; 51 2 and 3-yr. P.A. heifers, £6 11s; 13 P.A. empty cows, £5 10s; 14 Jersey cows and calves, £3; springing Jersey hoifers,,£3 19s to £4 15s; empty Jersey heifers, £3 to £3 7s Od; storo Jersey cows, £1 19s to £2 14s; yearling Jersey heifers, £2 15s to £2 ISs.
