40-hour Week on Railways

EFFECT ON CLERICAL DEPARTMENT.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. In reply to a question as to how the introduction of the 40-hour week was iikely to affect the clerical side, of the Department’s staff, Mr G. H. Mackley, general manager of Railways, stated that at all of the main stations and offices throughout the Dominion a 40hour week was already being worked and that its introduction in a general way would be brought about with as much expedition as circumstances would permit. • “The staffing arrangements necessary for the completion of the scheme were already in hand,” stated- Mr Mackley, “and although they were somewhat involved, it was not expected that .their finalisation would be unduly delayed.”
