t From Our Own Correspondent Personal. Mrs. Halberg is a guest of Mrs. Fred Hansen. Mr. and Mrs. W. Mason, who have been the guests of Mr. J. R. Mason for the last fortnight, have left on their return to Australia. Friends of Mr. P. Williams will be pleased to learn that he is making a good recovery from his recent illness. Rainfall. Those hoping for spring weather to commence with the season have been sadly disappointed as the last fortnight has been exceptionally stormy and wet. Local rainfall gauges show that over three inches of rain have fallen already this month. The stormy weather has made farming tasks such as feeding out very miserable. Opossum trappers operating locally have had their operations severely curtailed on account of high winds and swollen creeks. Bible Class. The fortnightly meeting of tho Methodist Bible class was attended by twelve members and a visitor from Eketaliuna. It was decided that future meetings start at 7.30 o’clock. Following tho next meeting, at which Rev. ,S. Hindmarsh, of Eketahuna, will preside, a supper and a social hour will take place at the local hall. All who attend are assured of an excellent evening’s entertainment. Card Evening. Tho weekly euchre evening held at the school rooms drew a good attendance, when following an enjoyable evening’s play, prizes went to the following: Men, Mr. R. P. A. Thomasen 1 and Mr. M. Eagle 2; ladles, Mrs, Thomasen and Mrs. G. Woodley. Ping Pong. Owing to counter-attractions the recent weekly ping pong evening was not very well attended. A handicap singles competition played for was won by Mr. B. Lozell and Mrs. Lozcll. Following are the detailed results: — ■ Ladies’ singles: First round, K. Davidson (scr) beat Miss B. Butler (3) 21—10, Mrs. Lozell (scr) beat Jean Goss (7) 21—17, 21—2, Joyce Terry (11) beat Mrs. Terry (scr) 21—13, IS—2l, 21—IK; semifinal, Mrs. Lozell beat Miss J. Terry 21— 16, 21—17; final, Mrs. Lozell beat Miss K. Davidson 22 —20, 22—20. Men’s singles: First round, Allan Butler (3) beat Lew Hansen (7) 23—21, IS—2l, 22 20, B. Lozell (scr) beat E. B. Terry (2) 21—18, 21—19, C. Terry (11) beat C. Hansen (4) 23—21, 21 —16; second round, Allan Butler beat C. Terry 21—19, 21—19, B. Lozell beat B. Davidson 20—22, 21—16, 21—19; final, B. Lozell beat Allan Butler 21—16, 18—21, 21—10. A team from the Hastwells Club will visit Nireaha next week when an interesting match should eventuate. Miniature Rifle Shooting. The recent Byrne Shield shoot fired at Nireaha between that club and Mangatainoka resulted in a win for Nireaha by 21 points. Tho Nireaha shootists were in excellent form and put up the record score of 970. With one shoot to go for tho shield, Nir aha lead Makomako by one point. Following the shoot Mr. W. Keast, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the Nireaha team for the evening’s entertainment and congratulated them on their excellent effort. Mr. R. J. Lawrence suitably replied for Nireaha. Keast 89; total 949. Leading scores In the Bush championship are: A. Talt 881, L. Heajms 881, S. Aanansen 880, J. D. Thomson 879, R. J. Lawrence 878, W. Eising 877. The weekly club shoot was productive of some good shooting, a high standard being attained by the snootists. Miss M.
