The State Forestry Department will complete its annual planting programme in the Rotorua district at the >3nd of the present month. The programme this year is smaller than in past years, and when it is completed approximately 7000 acres of new trees will havo been established. The conditions in tho plantations have been particularly rigorous this year owing to the succession of very heavy frosts which on tho high levels froze the ground to a depth of six inches for weeks at a time.
