Adequate Defence Force Necessary

LABOUR GOVERNMENT’S CONVICTION Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Last Night. The Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones), replying to the toast of “The Empire and Defence” at a reunion of volunteers yesterday, said the Government’s defence policy had not yet been formulated. They were studying the policies of previous Governments and were agreed on the point that New Zealand must support the British Government in their efforts for world peace. He said he considered it was the duty of tho country to provide for the training of air pilots and the Government were considering a scheme of co-opcratiou with the Old Country in this respect. Though the Government wanted world peace they realised that it would be necessary, till some nations regained their sanity, to maintain an adequate defence force.
