Transport Authorities To Receive £SOO

A FULL-TIME JOB. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The four now transport licensing authorities whoso names wero announced from Wellington by tho Minister of Transport (lion. R. Semple) will each receive a salary of £SUU yearly in return for which they will be required to devote their whole energies to their new duties. Mr Semple said to-day the authorities were appointed for one year, but they will bo reappointed so Jong us they were found to be suitable. .They will be paid travelling expenses also. They will be officers of tho Transport Department, but not under tho Public Service Commissioners. “It. will be a full-time job,’’ said the Minister, “and they must devote their whole attention to the re-organisation of the transport system.

“I uni (he Appeal Board, taking tho place of the old Transport Co-ordina-tion Board,” Mr Semple declared. “By that i am saving the nation £4OOO a year. Some have said I am taking, on too much work and that I will never be able to see over the piles of appeals. With tho proposed licensing machine, operated by competent men of the typo I have selected, there will be few appeals.”
