Stags Roaring

TIME FOR DEER STALKING NEAR AT HAND The "Times" Nireaha correspondent reports that from bushmen he has learned that stags have commenced roaring for the season. Within the next week roaring will be at its best and many parties will no doubt by then be camped on the favourite stalking blocks with the hopes of securing a good head. Although the heads seem to be deteriorating in most localities, some good ones are still procured. The best locality for a good head in the Tararuas seems to be in the headwaters of the Ohau and Mangahao rivers. Few stalkers venture so far afield but those who do are generally rewarded for their trouble.
