Garrison Band Committee’s Affairs

GENERAL MATTERS ARRANGED Mr. F. J. Oakley presided over a meeting of the Garrison Baud committee and there were also present Messrs J. A. Nash, W. C. Loudon, J. Creighton, W. 11. Brown, G. Tremaine, D. Davis, B. Davidson, R. L. O. Aitchison, S. Wilson, Captain G. M. McCaskill siriT Lieutenant Bike. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs C. J Haywood and W. 11. Cadwaliader. A letter was received from the Re turned Soldiers’ Association requesting assistance at the Anzac Day service.— The secretary reported that the band’s services had already been offered to the R.S.A. for that date.

Messrs Brown and White were appointed to arrange for a stall at the Winter Show.

Au offer to the band to control the cauteen at the 6th Mounted Rifles camp at Dannevirko was accepted, Messrs Brown and Pike being appointed a subcommittee to make arrangements. It was decided to apply to the City Council for a subsidy of the same amount as granted last year. It was also decided to apply to the council for permission to conduct a street stall on tne first Saturday in May' instead of the last Saturday in April. Mr. Brown, as delegate to the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association’s conference in New Plymouth, gave an interesting report on the proceedings, for which he was accorded a vote of thanks.

It was reported that Bandsmen L. Fitzsimons and Curtis had secured third and fifth place respectively in the ilugel horn and baritone solo championships. A letter of thanks for arrangements made in connection with the band’s engagements is to be forwarded to Mr. D. F. Smillie, of the Madge Motor Co. Mr. Pike reported that since the last meeting of the committeo the band had played for several local institutions, and members of the committee had visited the band at various intervals. The junior band, he said, was making good progress under the capable guidance of Mr. Thomas. Mr. Pike also reported that some of the band instruments required attention and he was authorised to have the necessary repairs effected.
