The Beauty of a Garden
THE NEED OF A BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY IN PAHIATUA (To the Editor.) of Pahiatua not one or two but many of aPhiatua not ono or two but many delightful residential gardens which for layout and general showing are equal to those of larger centres. Yet we have no beautifying society, and I submit, Sir,'that the industriousness of many of our residents should bo encouraged to the fullest extent for any encouragement would in itself be au inducement to many others to make a hobby of keeping tho grounds attached to their homes, however small, tidy in appearance and with the presence of a few beds of flowers, give to their abode a more prosperous outlook. The joy of sowing and watching a flower grow and tending it to full bloom is the joy of creating something. We have in our midst a number of practical gardeners who would, I am sure, be too pleased to help the Progressive Association in tho formation of a Beautifying Society for Pahiatua. The garden plots m Main street are a joy to visitors to toe town and are constantly remarked on by the passer-by from other centres. Why should we not add to the attractiveness of .our town by encouraging its residents to become lovers of gardens? One way, I submit, .Sir, would be to hold a scries of competitions for the gardens, awarding prizes for different types. I am keenly interested in tho formation of a Beautifying Society for the town and I hope that some abler pen will join with me in an endeavour to achieve such an end, the attainment of which I am sure 'will bring joy to many. It would bo tho means of interesting people in a delightful hobby—that of making the home more beautiful.--! am, etc., LOVER OF FLOWERS. Pahiatua,' 23/3/30.
