Dr. Doris Gordon Honoured. Dr. Doris Gordon, Stratford, who was made a member of the Order of the British Empire in tho ■ last Birthday Honours, was informally and privately invested with the decoration by: His Excellency the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, at the White Hart Hotel, New Plymouth, on Saturday. Owing to the death of King George V, the public investitude will not take place until later. Dr. Doris Gordon was the first woman in Australia to secure a fellowship of the. Royal College of Surgeons, receiving the honour in 1925 at the same time as her husband, Dr. Wi P. P. Gbrdon. She founded the Obstetrical Society in 1927 and promoted and organised the obstetrical endowment appeal in 1930, by which £31,750 was raised-for a chair at Dunedin. Before commencing practice at Stratford she was on the staff of tho Dunedin Hospital and as a lecturer at tho Otago University. She has always been speeially interested in maternal and'infant welfare.
