PAHIATUA SCHOOL AFFAIRS. On Monday evening the Pahiatua School committee met in Mr GodfreyTaylor’s offices, when the following members were present: —Messrs .G. Godfrey-Taylor (chairman), .W. Ricliardson, T. Burr, W. Murcli, AY. Barrett, W. J. Mills and E. Lett. Accounts amounting to £ls 5s 7d were passed for payment. The headmaster, in-his report, stated that the present Toll was 230, and of ■these, 242 pupils are in tho primary, while the remaining 38 out of the total are iu tho secondary school. During the mouth Inspectors D. MpCaskill and ,11. Watson, and also Mr Hesse, supervisor in agriculture, visited tho school. Mr Bell, Health Inspector, Palmerston North, made an inspection of tho school conveniences and had made certain recommendations. Tho report continued: “The school swimming sports were held on Wednesday, March 11th. The repairing of the basketball rings were deferred from a former meeting, will need attention in the near future. This school is badly in need of sports material and tho teachers are prepared to help toward raising part of the sun; required, but would like the committee to subsidise them to tho extent of £!■ for £l. Tho visiting committee members, Messrs Murch and Lett, visited the school to-day.” Schoolground Repairs.

Mr E. Lett, reporting on his visit to tho school, said that measurements had been taken of the asphalt required to be layed down at the school and some 2,000 feet would be needed. Mr Lett also reported that some hemlock had been detected and wanted watching.

The chairman: What! More hemlock? Continuing, Mr Lett drew tho committee’s attention to the fact that somo taps needed replacing and several ropes on tho giant strides wanted replacing. Anv Topes liable to cause an accident had been tied up. Tho committee directed Mr Murcli tc attend to the matter of replacing taps required and at tho same time to have any defective ropes on the giant strides replaced. He was also instructed to engage a man to do work in the schoolgrounds. Subsidy for Sports Material Granted.

On tho motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Lett, it was decided to make a donation of £4 towards the purchase of required sports material —the schoolmaster, Mr Clarke, explained that an amount of about £S would bo required and that the teachers themselves would raise half of tho amount required. The chairman pointed out that the committee’s share would only be granted in a similar manner to the way in which the board treated them, namely, the committee would require to see the £4 raised before handing over its share, and further, that any material purchased would bo well looked after. Mr Clarke gave an undertaking that this would be done. School Dental Clinic.

The chairman reported that the total attendances for tho month at the dental clinic was 138 and the number of operations performed was 309. These figures covered nine different schools and he was sorry to say that two schools associated with tho Pahiatua clinic had not paid their contributions. The committee, after a short discussion on the matter, decided to remove the two defaulting schools from the list of those permitted the use of the Government clinic.
