CAPTURE OF BANK RAIDER “I w:isii all bank officials wero as prompt and as fast runners as you arc,” remarked Mr Walter’Davies, chairman of Ealing magistrates, London, in complimenting Mr Roy Darlington, a bank cashier, for the way he tracked a man who carried out a daylight raid on Barclay’s Bank, Ealing Broadway. Thomas Weston, aged 43, labourer, of no fixed address,, was sentenced to six mouths’ hard labour for stealing £7B in notes from the bank. Mr Darlington told the magistrates:—“I was attending to two customers at the counter when I saw a hand reach over tho grill and snatch a bundle of notes. I looked up and saw a man on the counter holding on to the grill with his right hand and thrusting a bundle of notes into his pocket with his left hand.

“He jumped down, and I shouted ‘stop that man!’ I jumped on to tho counter and over tho grill, and chased him along the Broadway into Oxford street, where I caught him.” Constable Berry related that he saw Warlington catch hold of Weston and bring him to the pavement. On being arrested, Weston said, “It is all right. I will give you all the notes I havo.” On his being searched, £7B in notes wero found in his overcoat pocket. Twenty previous convictions were recorded against Weston, including sentences for .being a reputed thief.
