Lawson for valuablo services rendered during the past soason.
Tho following annual report was read and adopted: —Wo had a happy season in which our players enjoyed themselves both on and oil tho field. Although wo wore not successful in annexing the championship honours, wo can feci proud of tho smallness of tho number of points (4) we were behind the winners, when we roaliso that we had numerous casualties so early in the season and throughout the playing time. Very early in the season wo lost J. Morgan, one of our best players, through a motor accident and later Packer, Burne and Lundy were all hurt on the field and we naturally felt the loss of these men, who are all of. representative standard. Wo can feel very pleased in having 11. Bono, J. Sutton, and T. Packer representing Manawatu against tho Indians, and wliilo the Indians were visiting our city we had (lie honour of entertaining them at our dance, which proved one of tho best dauco successes hold in Palmerston North and which tlio Indians appreciated to the full. At the beginning of tho season we were able to take our two teams to Levin and meet the Levin club in most enjoyable games. Towards the end of the season two representative teams played two Dannevirkc teams and in those games Phoenix were very well representd, as almost every member of our club was selected. It is a great pleasure to again present a balance-sheet which is “on the right side of the ledger.’ ’ We have had a heavy drain on our finances. This balance, as our report shows and as oui older members will recall, is tho second largest in our time, tho largest being three years ago when the queen carnival was held. This is due to the untiring efforts of Mr V. Turner, as our social secretary; all thanks must bo .extended to this ardent worker for the club. In conclusion, wo would like to thank all members, both activo and otherwise, for the assistance given, also all tho vice-presidents.who have assisted.us with donations and help; our captain, Mr. W. Lundy, deserves special thanks for his able handling of the club both on tho field and off; lie certainly is our old fighting captain.
