PAREWANUI. % At - the first annual meeting Mrs Tattle, tho vice-president, tvas in the chair. Apologies were received from Mesdames Marumaru and M. Anderson. A welcome was extended to the visitors present and also to three new members, Mesdames G. Abraham, M. Homes, and Miss Hazel Russell. The secretary’s report on the year’s work was read and showed that a very successful and interesting year had been spent by the members. The treasurer’s report and balance sheet showed a good credit balance of £0 8s sd. On the motion of Mrs Drew a hearty vote of thanks was returned to tho retiring president (Mrs Marumaru) and also to tho secretary and treasurer for the efficient way they had carried out their duties. Miss Hazel Russell then presented Mrs Drew with a very pretty shoulder spray. As the nominations received did not exceed the number required a ballot was unnecessary. Tho committee members are as follows: Mesdames Russell, Marumaru, Tattle, Last-Harris, Rogers, Apirana, Jamieson, Crosland, Misses L. Coleman and L. Rogers. Mrs A. Tattle was elected president for the forthcoming year. The points prizes for the year presented by Mrs Drew were won by Mrs Marumaru 1, Mrs Tattle 2. The potato competition was won by Mrs Last-Harris. Vocal items rendered by Mrs Abraham and Miss Rogers were thoroughly enjoyed. A novelty competition, “A motor car marriage,” was won by Mrs Grace (Sanson). Mrs Drew, a member of the executive, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her help during the afternoon. It was decided to hold a flag’ five hundred and dance on Friday, March 20. Members are to bring a basket, non-memDers Is, men Is 6d. NIREAHA. The annual meeting took place in the public hall on February 4. Mrs Petersen presided over a fair attendance of members. The election of officers resulted in the following being appointed: Mrs C. Mills, president; Mrs J. Mason, vice-president; Miss I. Spring, hon. secretary; committee, .Mrs Blewett, Mrs Williams, Mrs F. Hansen, Mrs O’Neil, Mrs Terry, Miss E. Hanson, Miss M. Drysdale. A vote of thanks byacclamation was accorded the retiring president, Mrs Petersen (who did not seek re-election), and who has held office since the inauguration of the Institute in 1932 and has carried out her duties most successfully, also to the retiring secretary, Mrs Williams, who was complimented by the auditor in tho manner in which the books were kept. A donation from the new year dance committee was received with thanks. The winners of the competitions were: Rhubarb, Mrs Tliomasen 1, Miss Hanson, Mrs Mills, Mrs O ’Neil, Mrs Blewett equal 2; darning, Mrs Mason, Mrs Thomasen equal 1, Mrs Williams 2, Miss Hanson 3. Competitions for next month are to be for a pot of apple jelly and a worked apron. Afternoon tea served by the capable hostesses, Mrs O’Neil and Miss Drysdale, brought a busy but pleasant afternoon to a close. KOPANE A most enjoyable afternoon was spent by tho members of the Kopauo W.I. and friends at Mrs Salt’s house on March 11, although tho weather prevented a picnic being held as arranged. During the afternoon Mrs Divehall, Mrs Salt and Misses Ilancox, Humphries and Salt entertained those present with pianoforte, vocal, and elocutionary items, which were much appreciated. Several most amusing competitions were held, the winners being: Mrs Salt, clothes pegs; Mrs Larkin, nail driving; Mrs Glasgow, jumbled names; Miss Jean Gould, treasure hunt. The annual meeting will bo held at Mrs Glasgow’s house on Monday, March 23.
