Local Jottings
On Monday evening at the reception to Athol Mahoney in tho Konini hall his friends remarked on his fit appearance after his tour with tho All Black team, and at the invitation of several of his older associates, an adjournment was made to the dairy factory close handy in order that he might “weigh in” for their satisfaction. There was a disappointment in store, however, for when Athol stepped on to the platform the scales were incapable of registering his weight—tho indicator hand stopping at 2111 b. The popular Bush representative assured those present that his .weight to-day was over 2201 b he looked it. To day is Ash Wednesday and marks the commencement of the Lenten season. The annual general meeting of tho Pahiatua Horse Sports Club will bo held in Mr J. A. Walsh’s office tomorrow evening at 8 o’clock. All interested are invited to attend. The secretary of the Pahiatua Swimming Club reports that the open carnival arrangements are well in hand, and indications point to to-night’s function being a highly successful one. Some class performers will be seen in action, and then there is the big leap year dance to follow in the Mangamutu hall, which . commences at 8 o’clock.
