Supplementary Ewe Fair
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report a good yarding of ewes of all grades at Monday’s supplementary ewe fair. The demand for reliable 4 and 5-yr. ewes was sound, with values hardly up to the main ewe fair; nevertheless, an excellent clearance resulted. Several pens of good 2-th. ewes were submitted and for these the demand was good with values in this section being well up to recent rates. Quotations: —4 and 5-yr. ewes, 21s, 22s 9d, 23s 6d to 24s 6d; 5-yr. ewes, 19s, 20s, 21s, 22s to 235; 4-th. ewes, 30s, 3.1 s to 32s 6d; 2-th. ewes (small), 26s 6d, 28s, 29s to 30s; 2-th. ewes (bettor sorts), 30s 6d, 31s, 325, 33s 6d 355, 36s to 395; aged low-conditioned ewes, 12s, 12s 6d, 13s to 13s 6d.
Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, Ltd., report on the above fair held on Monday, when a large yarding of sheep camo forward to a good attendance of buyers who were present from the Hawke’s Bay, Levin, Manawatu and Wairarapa districts. E. Jewitt, Haunui, topped our offering of 4-year ewes at 29s 4d. R. Harmon, Haunui, annual draft of 4-year owes realised 29s 2d, and the Saunders Estate 422 4-year ewes made the satisfactory prico of 29s 3d. A. H. Ahrens, Kaitawu, 5-year ewes topped our offering at 26s Bd. In the 2-th ewes, E. A. Winkler’s line realised 3Ss.
The general inquiry was for good sound ewes with good mouths, this class of ewe realised up to late rates. Other ewes did not realise as good as previous quotations, but the inquiry is still strong for first-class ewes. Wc quote our sales as under: — 1-year ewes: 421 A/e Saunders Estate 29s 3d, 165 A/c E. Jewett 29s 4d, 60 4 and 6-th and 4-year A/e H. Kelsey 29s 3d, 162 A/c Lewie Estate, 29s 3d, 112 A/c Olsen and Jacobsen 295, 195 A/c R. Harmon 29s 2d, 85 A/c A. H. Ahrens 27s 3d, 94 A/c Clapham Estate 27s 3d.
