An Evening Wedding at Taihape

Beautifully*' decorated by ’ friends) with red and -white flowers, punga ferns and greenery,thelocal- hall 'presented a very picturesque appearance on Wednesday evening, February T 9, -when, the wedding took place there of Mabel Doreen (Molly), second daughter of Mr and Mrs -T, Gilbert, Taihape,. and Leslie Herbert, eldest son of Mp and Mrs W. ltiley, of Auckland (formerly of Taihape). The bride • and bridegroom ■ stood under an archway centred by a large white bell, and the ceremony was performed by the Beverend Abbot, 1 nuptial music being played by Mrs Hayes. Given away, by her ' father, \ Miss Gilbert looked very regal in a gown, of ivory silk lace over' satin, closely moulded to the figure with rucking over the shoulders, full sleeves finished at wrists with orange blossom and neck outlined in front With similar flowers. The long graceful train was bordered with handmade flowers of satin., Her beautifully embroidered veil of. silk net was held well' back •from. ,thc bride's brow with a.coronet of orange blossom and she wore a dainty gold pendant, presented her by the bridegroom. Her bouquet was of white carnations,. roses and maidenhair fern, tied with white ribbon. The bride was attended by her cousin, Miss Jean Stuart-Moray, of Peilding (chief), 1 and sister, Miss. Nellie; Gilbert, who . were charmingly, attired in red and white. Their frocks of ivory fiamoselle-were cut on lines similar to the bride's and were finished across tho corsage with red flowers. Tiny white flovyers edged the ruehiug round the necks of their red velvet capes that were, fastened in front with white and ■ silver ■ buttons and their bandeaux' were of red carnations. Velvet shoes in the same shade were worn and shower bouquets of red cactus dahlias, gladioli and fern tied with matching ■ ribbon were carried. The best man was Mr C, Eagle, of Hunterville, and the groomsman, Mr A. Johnson, also of Hunterville. After the wedding a reception, at which some 60 relatives and . friends were present, was held at ; the home-of the bride's parents. ■ Mr and Mrs" Gilbert received their guests in the hall, Mrs Gilbert wearing a frock of bottle green silk inarocaiu, • relieved, with; apricot, a hat to tone, and carrying flowers in autumn tints. The- drawing-room was festively decorated with red and white streamers and over the bride's table hung a lovely floral, bell, .made, by- Miss N. Donaldson. : The handsome wedding cake of four tiers was made and given by the bridegrobM’s mother. The numerous delightful presents, among which were many substantial cheques, .attracted much attention. Telegrams of congratulation, from all parts of the island were received by tho bride and bridegroom, who later left by the Limited express to spend their honeymoon.. in Auckland. The bride travelled in a brown silk ensemble with red, and hat, bag and shoes to match. !

Crystal scent 1 sprays were the gifts received by the bridesmaids from .the bridegroom. - r* - ■ -

Ai-r the reception, the guests returned do the hail- to - spend ,the remainder of the evening in dancing. A thoroughly enjoyable time was spent and music was supplied by the “Sundowners’ " orchestra.
