Graceful Pahiatua Bride And Charming Retinue

NELSON—SWAINSON. A wedding of widespread interest wa4 celebrated at St. Peter 's Cliurch, Pahiatua, yesterday afternoon, when Barbara Laura, second daughter of Mr and Mrs J.G. Swainson, of “Kaburangi," Pahiatua, was married to William -Park, only son of Mr and Mrs P. P. Nelson, of Pahiatua. Girl friends of the bride had transformed the church with a wealth of hydrangeas, phlox and agapanthus in pastel shades of blue and pink, and into this setting came the lovely bride in her gleaming satin gown, escorted by her father. The church was crowded to the doors, friends having come from far and near to do honour to the .two families, the members of which are held in high esteem.

Bev. H. Wilson performed the ceremony and the wedding music was provided by Mrs J. D. V. Crewe. Ivory satin fashioned the attractive bridal robe, which was cut on slender iines to form a very long train, the corsage having a square neckline caught with diamante clips and sprays of orange blossom. A plaited girdle encircling the waist had long ends tipped with orange blossom. The filmy tulle veil was worn over thb face and held in place with a wreath of orange blossom, and fell to form a second train. A sheaf bouquet of cream gladioli and asparagus fern completed a charming ensemble.

In attendance were .three bridesmaids, Miss P. Swainson (chief), sister of tho bride,.Miss V. Bichardson, and Miss A. Beetham, of Mastorton. .They wore dainty sleeveless frocks of white chiffon, the corsages having deep capes edged with narrow frills, the skirts fashioned to form long trains finished with frills. Circlets of .twisted pearls adorned their heads and a lovely touch of colour was achieved with shower bouquets of deep pink begonias and trails of asparagus fern. The best man • was Mr B. ■ Bunny, of Masterton, and the groomsmen, Mr J. Bunny, of Masterton, and Mr G. Nelson, of Pori. The ushers at the church were Messrs J. Shelkleton and E. Whitcombe.

The reception following was held at “ Kahurangi, " where some hundreds of guests were very happily entertained. Hydrangeas, dahlias and gladioli ornamented tho various rooms, in one of which were on view tho gifts that hau been showered upon this popular pair.

Mr and Mrs Swainson received tie guests, tho latter wearing a graceful frock of navy and white floral liberty georgette with navy taffeta sash and sleeves, also, a navy • picthre hat, her bouquet being of crimson gladioli and fern. Mr and Mrs Nelson also assist l ed, Mrs Nelson wearing a distinctive frock of black lace-and black velvet hat, her bouquet being of shaded red roses.

The bride and bridegroom stood in the drawing-room to receive the felicitations of their friends and later the toast to the happy couple was proposed by Mr D. O. Howden, of,Pahiatua. •■■■-.

Mrs A, J. Nelson (Hastings), sister of the bride, wore a navy' blue cape ensemble with .touches of white and a navy picture .., hat. Other relatives of the bride present were Mrs W, £!. Marshall, of Maungaraupi, who wore a navy silk ensemble and navy hat ; Mrs H. H. Marshall, Motukowhai, in red pebble crepe ensemble and black hat; Mrs E. P, Swainson, Peilding, navy floral silk frock, pavy silk coat and navy hat; Miss Ruth Swainson, clerry floral crepe de chine and hat to tone; Mrs Mae Swainson (Manakaii), brown crepe suede ensemble, brown hat; Miss Betty Swainson, brown crepe de chine, biscuit-straw hat; Mrs Swainson. (Silverhope), navy and white ensemble, navy hat; Mrs Kennedy (Hatuma), black and white checked silk frock, black coat and hat; Miss Geraldine Kennedy, yellow striped silk, leghorn hat; Mrs G, Cross (Wanganui), ciel blue satin frock, trimmed .with grey fox fur, blue. picture hat; Miss N. Avery (Wanganui), navy and white striped: spotted frock, navy silk coat and navy . hat. Miss Prances Nelson, sister of' the bridegroom, wore a rust' silk suit with gold embroideries and a hat.to tone. Relatives of the bridegroom present included Mrs .G. Payne (Martinborough), who wore a frock of oyster sand crepe, a sealskin cape and brown hat; Mrs A. Nelson (Pahiatua), floral crepe de chine frock, black silk coat and black picture hat; Mrs Innes (Castlepoint), in black with black hat; Miss Innes, black and white figured silk, black.hat; ,Mrs Buckley. (Pahiatua), cream silk crepe patterned with red, brown: hat; Mrs Hinson (Dannevirke), navy and red patterned- crepe de chine, beige straw hat’; Mrs J, R. Nelson, brown floral georgette, brown. hat. *• : . When Mr and Mrs Nelson left by car on their wedding trip, the bride wore a smart navy and white striped suit with white Peter Pan collar, a navy - straw hat and : navy shoes and she carried a bag to match.. - .They will, in future, reside at "Ruatea,” Porii . . ... -
