Paragraphs About People and Events The Commissioner of Police (Mr W. G. Wohlmaun) was a visitor to the city yesterday afternoon. <s><s><s►<s* Mr E. Casey assistant general manager of New Zealand Railways having wired yesterday that he was called away, a well-known gentleman has kindly consented to give the Citizens' Lunch Club his experience of “seven years in Samoa.” <S> •$> <s> <S> A further remand, until February 26, was granted by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday when a Feilding salesman was charged on two counts. Tho police explained that accused was still in hospital following a recent injury. He was faced with failing to account for sums of £7O 13s 3d and £53 10s respectively, thereby having committed theft.
City shopkeepers report an excellent business day yesterday. It was very apparent, especially in the early afternoon, that farmers had come to town en masse. Thursday, of course, is always a busy day for Palmerston North but when it coincides with the 20th of the month, it becomes an extra busy occasion. Then the rain of yesterday morning must have put an end to farming operations and a day in the city enjoyed instead.
The annual meeting of the Wellington North branch of the Now Zealand Society of Accountants was held last evening, Mr. N. I. Nielsen, chairman of the branch, presiding. There was a fair attendance of members. Officers were elected as follow: —Chairman, Mr. N. I. Nielsen; committee, Messrs W. H. Galbraith, R. A. Brace, F. W. Coombs, J. B. Smillie, D. Whisker (Feilding), and R. Davis (member of N.Z. Council); secretary, Mr. C. V. Day; auditor, Mr. C. D. Fraser. <S> <s> ❖
A further batch of 13 children from Palmerston North wero sent to the Otaki beach camp lust Friday while 12 who had enjoyed the privileges of the camp returned to the city greatly benefited in health. The children stay at the seaside for six weens and furtner batches will be sent down from time to time. Parents who consider their children would benefit fiom a stay at camp uro asked to communicate with the local secretary of the scheme, Mr R. Allison, Rangitikei street.
