Christchurch Raid On Opium Smokers
l’er Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 11. An opium lamp made from an eggcup, a cut-down beer bottle set in a salad bowl, and a quantity of opium in tins formed the police exhibits in court this morning, following a raid on a Chinese fruit shop ou Saturday afternoon.
Wang Kow, occupier of the shop, was lined £75 for allowing premises in Ferry Road to be used for the smoking of opium. Ban Dan, a market gardener, was fined £l2 10s for smoking opium and £3O for being in possession of prepared opium. Leo Loke, a market gardener, was lined £l2 10s for being found on premises used for the smoking of opium and £3O for being iu possession of prepared opium. Ching King was lined £l2 10s for being found on premises used for the smoking of opium.
