Commenting on the appointment of Mr. Anthony Eden as Foreign Secretary, the London Times remarks that Mr. Eden, though he is still on the younger side of 40, has served an exceptional apprenticeship. The course of his career hitherto has allowed him to specialise in the subjects of his department in a measure which is rare in British politics. There can be no question of his qualifications on that side. At the same time, while he has often been unfairly misrepresented as playing a solitary role in the formulation of British policy toward the League, there is no doubt of the consistency and conviction with which he has upheld the ideal of international co-operation which is embodied in the Covenant. That public impression of him has not in any way been qualified by recent experience.
