Railway Monthly Return

INCREASED PASSENGER REVENUE

DECREASE IN SHEEP FORWARDED

The lateness of this year’s lambing season has been noticeable in the returns supplied by various stntionmasters, which go to show that, when taken in comparison with last year’s figures, far less lambs have gone forward. Pahiatua is no exception in this regard, for Mr Curtin, the stationmaster, reported yesterday that thero was a decrease ovor last year’s figures and that for the period December IC, 1935, to January 18, 1936, 17,712 lambs had gone forward. Passenger revenue, however, ho said, showed an increase of £23 over tho samo period, while the amount received from parcels, including checked luggage, was the same as last year. Goods, inward and outward, showed an increase of 51 tons, which was a revenue increase of £B4.

“During the period under review,” said Mr Curtin, “a total of 796 passengers have been carried, the revenue being £192.” Fifty-eight cattle and 17,712 sheep had been trucked, while parcel revenue was £35 and that of other goods £1370.
