Trick Rider's Accident
INJURIES TO MOTOR-CYCLIST (Special to "Times.”) AUCKLAND, Last Night. An uufortunato accident causing serious injuries to a woman rider, Mrs Helen Mossman, occurred during an exhibition of trick riding given by Putt Mossman and his American rno-tor-cyclo rodeo at the ‘broadsidiug meeting at the Western Springs stadium ou Saturday night. Mossman was attempting one of his most spectacular stunts, that of ridi..g blindfold from some distance away up a narrow incline and then hurdling his machine over the prostrate body of his wife. Mossman’s machine left the ramp correctly, but a -strut supporting the centre portion-gave way and the machine lurched over the side of the incline and struck Mrs Mossman, both wheels passing over her body. The machine was travelling at about 3U miles an hour, and the bump threw Mossman fairly heavily to the track as the machine upset. Mrs Mossman was attended to by Dr. A. J. Paterson and was removed from the track on a stretcher. She was taken to the Auckland Hospital with a fracture of the pelvis and her condition last night was fairly serious. Mossman had previously performed the trick ou the opposite side of the track, but when his cycle approachetl the ramp Mrs Mossman had jumped away, though tho machine would have given her plenty of clearance, Considerable pluck was shown by Mossman after the accident. He completed his evening’s performance by riding his machine at high speed through a framework of 5-inch boards set alight with kerosene.
