Iceberg Just Missed

VESSEL IN PERIL. Disaster was missed by; mere seconds when the Port Adelaide, which has arrived at New Plymouth ironi England, via Australian ports, was following a course from Cape Town to Melbourne. The second officer, Mr. G. E. Jones, on a black, foggy nighfc sighted an iceberg 20ft out of the water drifting almost under the vessel’s bow. With the helm hard to port, the Port Adelaide swerved, and the iceberg passed abeam barely 15 seconds after it had first been sighted. Ten minutes later another was seen to port, but no further danger was imminent.
