Diomede Not Returning to New Zealand
CREW TO MAN H.M.S. ACHILLES per Press Association. AV ELLINGTON, Last Night. It was announced by tho Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones) to-day that H.M.S. Diomede was now employed undor the Imperial authorities on special service and will proceed direct to England as soon as she can be spared. The Minister explained that it was originally intended that, tho ship would return to New Zealand, to relit prior to sailing for tho United Iviugdon to turn over to H.M.S. Leander in May, 193(3. It had been found convenient, however, to accept the oiler of the Government in Great Britain 10 commission H.M.S. Achilles cany in 1930 as a ship of the New Zealand Division. The Diomede would, therefore, be relieved by that ship, and the new crew M tho Diomede, together with any loan Imperial naval ratings who bad not completed their servico on the New Zealand Station, would transfer to the Achilles.
The Minister states that no actual dates for tho arrival of the Diomede in England or the arrival of the Achilles in New Zealand have been iixed yet, but so soon as definite arrangements are made, he will make a further an ; uoui.cemcnt.
