Transport Co-ordination
MINISTER TACKLING PROELEM.
“I.find tlio transport system of New Zealand presents a most complicated problem, with the many conflicting interests, and in some cases, cutthroat competition,” said Hon. 11. Semple, in his capacity as Minister of Transport, when chatting with a “Times” representative last night. “I propose to caii a conference early in the New Year of all the individuals and orguuisatioiis interested, with a view to getting the opiuious of all concerned so that we may arrive at decisions that will help to bring our transport system up-to-date. This is in line with our determination to seek the co-operation of tho people most vitally concerned in every phase of tho Government’s activities. “I realise that the transport system is passing through a transition stage and it needs careful watching and careful management in order that we may give the public the best service possible. It is a difficult problem but it has got to be tackled. “Roading,” said the Minister, “is another job that comes under my department. I am particularly concerned about the baekblocks settler's and am determined to see that proper roadiug facilities are provided for, them. “Tho speedy completion of the main highways is also essential to an op-to-date transport system, which is one oi the best national assets a country can possess, and wo will strive earnestly to bring that about.”
