Manawatu Scottish Society's Ingleside

The final .ingleside of the Mnnawatu Scottish Society was held in the Cosmopolitan hall on Wednesday evening, the function taking the form of a “Mad Hatters” dance. There was a large attendance to enjoy proceedings which were ably conducted by Mr. A. S. Cooper. Excellent old-time music was played by a combination of four instrumentalists. An eccentric tap dance was given by Miss M. Peterana, who was accompanied by Mr. Spencer. Mr. Paul played music for an extra dance, after which Pipers Nicholson, Cooper (2), Allen and Godbaz played a selection, “Green Hills of Tyrol.” Novelty prize winners were:—Lucky partner Gay Gordons, Miss I F. Fagan and Mr. Hopkins; lucky partner Paul Jones, Miss N Cooper and Mr. Stevens; lucky partner Jolly Miller, 1 Miss N. Sutherland and Mr. Cronin; railway trip, Mrs. Cooper and Mr. Pickering; Monte Carlo waltzes (2), Miss M. Kadornski and Mr. J. Anderson and Miss Ensor and Mr. Naylor. Mr. J. S. Jenkinson convoyed to patrons the season’s greetings and thanked them for their support during the year. Mr. Jenkinson also gave a reminder of the society’s picnic, which will be held on Anniversary Day next year, and also Burns’ night on January 25. The gentlemen present received gifts of cigarettes and the ladies received chocolates.

During the afternoon a party was. held for members’ children, approximately 50 juveniles bein~ present, the time being spent in games, competitions and novelties. The controlling of tho gathering was in the hands of Mesdames A. S, Cooper, J. S. Jenkinson, V, J, Nicholson, M. M. Huntly, Misses J. McCulloch and L. Hughes. Prior to the conclusion, each child was given a present.
