Closing Shops on Election Day

NELSON RETAILERS ANNOYED Per Press Association. NELSON, Nov. 21. Tho Nelson Soft Goods and Boot Retailers’ Association to-day passed a resolution strongly protesting against tho compulsory closing of shops on the afternon of election day. Shopkeepers feel that tho allowance of time off to vote is adequate provision for the staffs.

A drastic resolution to defy the law and keep open was seriously considered, but better counsels prevailed and it was decided to make strong representations to the Government along the lines of the suggested amendment to the Electoral Act brought forward by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and the Now' Zealand Drapers’ Federation.
