Postman’s Lapse
“This is a lamcntablo case,” remarked tho Bournemouth. Recorder. Mr. J. Lhind Pratt, to John Fox, aged 58, postman, of Bournemouth, when he pleaded guilty to stealing 15 letters, containing £4 10s, in the course of his employment. Hitherto of excellent character, Fox, who was in receipt of £3 Is a week, was within 15 months of retiring on pension. “Your offcnco, quito apart from any sentence of tho Court, has brought severe punishment upon you,” the Recorder tot’d Fox. “Your character is gone, your employment is gone, and you have lost that pension to which you would have become entitled. “it is only beeauso of thoso exceptional matters that I am ablo to pass the lenient sentence of six ■ months' imprisonment in tho second division."
