Driver's License Cancelled For Six Months
INTOXICATED WHILE IN CHARGE OE CAR Charged with having been in a state of intoxication while in charge of a car on the road between Masterton and Eketahuna on Monday, William James Ball, aged 45, a traveller, was lined £ls and had his license cancelled for six months by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court at Palmerston North yesterday. Senior-Sergeant Mori arty told the Court that at 4.45 p.m. on Monday, Sergeant Dyer, of the Masterton police, advised the constable at Eketahuna by telephone to look out for a blue cai which was zig-zagging along the road, the driver apparently being under the influence of liquor. Shortly after 5 o’clock the constable at Eketahuna saw a car being brought in by r a breakdown truck. Tho car had run into a bauk on the road two miles from Eketahuna. Accused, tho driver, was intoxicated and lie was arrested by Constable Walker. Accused had recently been before the court on a charge of having driven a car in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public.
Accused said he had had two brandies and a wine during tho day. In tho car he had going to sleep, and while in that sta'tc he had run into a bank on the road.
‘' This is the -second time I have had you up for being a menace on the road,” said his Worship. “You will have to travel by service car for the next six months.”
Accused’s driving license was cancelled for six months and he 'was fined £ls.
On accused asking for time in which to pay, the Magistrate told- him that he would have to pay £5 immediately and the balance in two monthly instalments of £5.
