While digging a potato patch at Somerstown, Mr fc>. Heaslip unearthed a large brass explosive shell complete with metal cap (reports a To Aroha correspondent). The shell is marked on the end, “Patronenfabrik Karlsruhe, 1917,” indicating its German origin, but how it came to be in the garden section is not known. A returned soldier states that the shell is of the type used Liy the Germans against the British tanks, as its iron top was calculated to penetrate heavy armour.
