Breaches of Apiary Act Are Brought

SHANNON MAN FINED IN MAGISTRATE’S COURT

An unusual case was heard by .Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court in the city yesterday, when Mr D. S. Robinson, apiary instructor at Pafnierstofi North, took proceedings against Vernon Manic Pope, ilaxworlier, of Miraimi, Shannon, for breaches of tho Apiaries Act, 1927. Defendant was charged with: (1) Failing to take steps to euro the disease of foul brood and preventing its spread within seven days of first becoming aware of its presence, and in failing to send a notice to the inspector; (2) with failing to carry out the written directions of the inspector under the Act, the burning of infected material, etc., aud (3) exposing bee combs and appliances taken from the affected hives before they had been sterilised.

In evidence Mr Eobiusou told of his inspection of the hives, finding disease present, and serving notice. Decs there, he added, had been iu contact with infected material and other inves within living range had been liable to infection. This made it a, serious offence.

The-Magistrate imposed a fine of £5 on tho first count; and £2 10s on tho other two. Costs amounted to 10s on each charge.
