INTER-CLUB MATCH AT HOKOWHITU. . MANAWATU-NAPIER. A small team from the Napier Golf Club visited Hokowhitu during the week-end and after tho honours of the four-ball matches had been shared, the homo team secured a small margin in tho singles. As a result of last week’s breakdown with tho grass cutting plant the course was a trifle slow. Detailed results, Manawatu players mentioned first, arc as under:—
Pour-ball Matches. Giendiuning and Williams beat Troutbeck and Geddcs. Beudall and C. G. Moore lost to Sinclair and Worker.
Rapley and Graham lost to Lawry and Wylie.
Fitzherbert and Wimsett beat Williams and Clayton. Singles. K. S. Glcndinning beat H. E. Troutbeck. 0. H. Williams halved with C. Geddes. F. Bendall lost to A. Sinclair. A. Snell beat R. Worker. S. W. Rapley halved with A. E Lawry.
J. Graliam beat Wylie. W. L. Fitzlierbert lost to E Williams.
J. E. Lewis beat K. G. Clayton, Barraud Service Cup.
The Barraud Servico Cup competition, which is open to members wh« were on active servico or in camp preparatory to going on active service during the war, was played in conjunction with the October bogey and it was won by T. Stubbs, with J. Barnhill and B. Cr. Moore in second place. Other cards handed in were those of A. Anderson, A. E. E. Joblin and R. W. Priest. October Bogey.
The conditions were not favourable for the October bogey, there being a high wind, making for nice judgment near the greens, and as a result the “Colonel" had a day out, the best A grado cards being those of O. H. Williams and T. Stubbs, who were 1 down. The leading scores were as under:—

PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB’S CHAMPIONSHIP.
17-YEAR-OLD MAX BAMSAY IS NEW TITLE-HOLDER.
Splendid recovery shots by both players were the outstanding feature of the final between 17-year-old Max Ramsay and L. G. Sinclair, and Bamsay won 1 up after an exciting tussle. The first hole was halved in 5 -'s, both requiring three putts after long drives had paved the way for comparatively easy 4’s. Bamsay went into the load at the. second with a 5 to G and the third, w r here both took three putts, was halved in s’s. After poor tee shots Sinclair took the fourth in 4 to 5. Both played sound golf at the next which was halved, but Ranisay regained Ms lead at the sixth where he negotiated a dead stymie with a beautifully played pulled putt -which went down for tho par 4. The long seventh was halved in scratch figures, and the eighth in 4’s, neither reaching the green with his tee shot. Tho ninth was halved in steady 4’s and at the turn Bamsay was 1 up. Sinclair again squared the match by taking the tenth with a par 4. Bamsay had a chance of a win at the eleventh, where Sinclair drove out of bounds, but he failed with a longish putt and the hole was halved in 6’s. The 12th, where both were short, was halved in s’s, Bamsay recovering well after pushing his second into the rough at the right
of tho green. Tho 13th (140 yards) was a spectacular hole. Ramsay's teo shot finished in tho dip short of the terrace, Sinclair being in long grass. Ramsay’s second was too strong and ha over-ran by 40 feet. He chipped bach stone dead. Sinclair’s approach was too strong and his chip 10 feet pas! the pin. Ho then proceeded to run down the putt and the hole was halved in 4’s. Tho 14th and 15th were halved and with three to play and the gamo all square the strain was right on. At tho long 16th (490 yards) both hit long drives, but Sinclair duffed his second. Bamsay, playing steady golf, placed his third on the middle of the green. Sinclair’s third was short, but his approach was stone dead. Bamsay’s approach putt was much too strong and he finished 10 feet past. It now looked like a w T iu for Sinclair, but Bamsay Tan down tho putt and the hole was halved in scratch figures. At tho 17th Sinclair pushed his tec shot off the line, while Bamsay made no mistake, covering tho flag with a beautishot which gave him the win in 3 to 4. He was now dormy and the half in 4 on the homo green gave Mm the match and the championship.
THOMPSON CUP. Tliis cup lias reached the semi-final stage. Cumbcrworth plays Simpson and Walsh plays Vannini. GOLDFINCH AND COUSINS CUP. J'. Lamsay is -waiting for the -winner of the Vannini and AValsh match to come through, -when the final -will be fought out. SHANNON CUP. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. A. J. Berryman beat Wilson in the semi-final and is awaiting the result oi the Kells v. Bailey match. EKSTEDT MEDALLION. The scmi-Jinal of this competition was played during the week-end and Anderson beat Irving and McPhee beat Bailey, making Anderson and McPhcc finalists.
WEEK-END MEDAL ROUND. A surprise awaited those who played in a medal round, when B. Brace returned a card of S5 —23 —62.
Other good cards were:—Simpson, S2—l4—6S; Bennett, 56—15—71; Bamsay, 78 —6 —72; French, 54—12—72; Wilson, 92—20—72.
