Cricket in Feilding

ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of llic Feilding Cricket Association was held Wednesday evening with Mr. G. J. Fitzpatrick (president) in the chair. The following delegates wero present: — Messrs W. Power and L. Whitehead (Colyton), H. Brock, J. Dewe and G. Ltosoman (Old Boys), A. C. Buist, and W. Dunn (Feilding), C. B. McClure, Z. McLeod and M. Barltrop (Public Service), S. Orr (Sanson), H. Cocker (Wesley), J. E. Cockroft (Umpires' Association) and T. Donaldson (secretary). Moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the president referred to the happy and successful season and handed on the remark of a visitor from Auckland who, after watching tho play on 'Kowhai Park, said that he could not believe that the game was so enjoyable. It was a fact that cricketers in Feilding were il happy family. Mr. Fitzpatrick went on to congratulate the Sanson club upon its double success in winning 'Ac B grade contest and tho Bartholomew cup. The departure of Mr. Anderson, of tho Banson Club, who had been a keen cricketer in Feilding for over 30 years, was deeply regretted as was also tlie leaving of Kev. E. O. Blamires and Mr. E. 11. Lange. Discussing tho balancesheet, the president said tho profit from the afternoon teas amounted to £9 3s and he though it should bo 50 per cent, greater. He had noticed that the refreshments had not been patronised as freely as previously and it was to be hoped that cricketers would patronise the service and so help tho association which benefited from tho profits. Mr. Fitzpatrick went on to refer to the donations received and named those from the association’s patron, Mr. (J. E. Taylor, and those kindred bodies that had used Kowhai Park on various occasions. Discussing the old Kowhai Park account, tho secretary said that the balance amounting to £7 5s Id had been transferred to the association’s account to facilitate transactions. The credit balance of £39 13s 5d in the association’s balance-sheet was just over £5 less than the balance carried forward for the previous year. Curiously enough that had been the case over tlie past three years —a loss of £5 annually. The report and balan.ce-sheet were adopted. Officers vvero elected as follow: Patron, Mr. T. Collins (Mayor); president, Mr. L. J. Wild; vice-president, Mr. G. J. Fitzpatrick; secretary and treasurer, Mr. T. Donaldson; management committee, Messrs J. Dewe, N. Fitzpatrick, M. Barltrop, L. Whitehead and Z. McLeod; Kowhai Park subcommittee, Messrs W. H. McLean, McClure and Donaldson; delegate to Manawatu Cricket Association, Mr. K. Biss: postponement committee, Messrs Wild and Donaldson. It was decided to recommend the management committee to appoint a solo selector. In connection with tho Manawatu Association’s proposal regarding the Goldfinch and Cousins’ Cup, it was decided not to fix upon any conditions by way of recommendation but to leave Feilding’s delegates a free hand. Messrs Wild and Donaldson were appointed to attend a meeting to decide upon the conditions of play for the cup. It was decided to arrange a social gathering to farewell Mr. E. H. Lange and fittingly reeogniso Ms services to cricket in Feilding. Kowhai Park Control. The matter of the control and upkeep of Kowhai Park was brought up by the president, who said the state of the association’s finances made it imperative that some change be mado if possible. Mr. Fitzpatrick dealt with the conditions existing at present under which the association held the park as custodians for the Borough Council, the council paying the associaI tion £54 per yoar towards the upkeep of tho ground and the paying of wages. It was now suggested that the association hand over tho park and ask the council to take over the control. There were certain drawbacks to this, but ho felt that -some effort should be made to have the financial load the association was bearing at present lifted. Mr. Donaldson dealt at length with tho state of the association’s revenue and voiced his support of the proposal to approach the council to take over the park control. It would perhaps mean that the association would have to surrender its assets iu tho shape of the two lawn mowers, etc., and this fie did not feel inclined to do; but something would havo to be done. It would also have to bo remembered that the council would have the solo voice as to the nature of games or winter sports played on the park, but within reason, Mr. Donaldson said, he was in favouT of games being played on the park in the winter to stir the turf and keep the moss that was there at present from spreading further. Mr. Orr considered that the association would perhaps not be any better off under the proposed change, and, into the bargain, would be surrendering its liberty of control. Mr, Bnist supported the point of some effort, being made to bring about a change, and it was eventually decided that Messrs C. B. McClure, W. H. McLean and T. Donaldson be re-elected the Kowhai Park committee and act for the association in regard to park control.

After a lengthy discussion concerning the raising of of funds to build a pavilion on Kowhai Park, tke meeting agreed to hold a bazaar after tho end o-f the season. It was left to the man-

agement committee to arrange ways and means of holding the bazaar, and the allotting of stalls and duties to each club. Nominations For Competitions. Teams as follow were nominated for the season’s competitions:— A. grade: Feilding, Colyton, Fublie Service and Old Boys. B grade: Sandon, Feilding, Old Boys, Wesley and two from the Feilding Agricultural High School. The opening date of the season was fixed for October 26, and a practice net was arranged, to be erected at the park for play on Saturday next. It was decided to accept the invitation of the Manawatu Cricket Association to play a representative match between the two associations on Labour Dav.
